Monday night I had the pleasure of watching Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. His panelists included Common, Charles Blow, Joe Jones and Mike Yard. The topic of the night was about African-American fatherhood segueing into speaking on the dynamic of the black community. It was welcoming to know the show was about keeping it real and the comments of these black men were if not accurate but a mirror of what I grew up witnessing through many stories of elders or of my own up bringing. Larry Wilmore also welcomes the public by allowing them to ask questions on the show's topic and I love his answers as well as presentation.

I prefer to watch most of my "oldies but goodies shows" on Netflix. But this show was worth turning on my television for a late night browse through the channels. It was comedic but real. It was a conversation among men, African-American men, and of course an island man (which resonates with the African-Americans from the West Indies and/or descendants) that had the facts and the professional background as well as the experience being in the communities in their youths. That created a connection with me and I hope to see more. I can't believe I have missed so much of this show already.

The discussion that caught me was "72 % of African -American children are born to unwed single black mothers." And the reasons for this are vast now. The only answer is not considered to be because of the stereotypical black man are incarcerated, though that is still a valid answer as one of the panelists pointed out. In reality now an answer can be and is for the people I know,  that the father isn't there but he is present by showing his support whether financially or emotionally to their children. Through this and many other answers, more black youth know they have the backing of another parent.

Learning Style

Have you ever wondered why you didn't understand something as much or as fast as your peers or your counterpart? For me it a state of how come I can't get it and how do I! Sometimes I find myself obsessing over it secretly keeping the green eye monster comments to myself and if it’s a dance move I shamefully practice when no one is around. Thank God for Youtube.

Not only have I learned to knit, braid (barely), learn a bit of Spanish, chemistry, public speaking, and every other academically thrived videos for my college classes, all on the world wide web, I have now found a quiz that helps you figure out your learning style.

Your own way of learning may always be different from the person sitting next you. But essentially if I learned from my psychology professional we're all similar.......in unique ways.

So with that said being the helpful visual and kinesthetic learner I am, check the link from discovery.com and discover your style of learning.

Saw what I did there.

I made 2 wigs....allow me to explain.

Youtube has a significant natural hair community of women who have several ideas on protective hairstyles to well protect their hair. My hair is very kinky and yes I have tried a few techniques, even products from watching a few of the females who are well known. Hence how I learned to make a wig.

And I did. I made 2 wigs one short the other long and curly. I'm planning on wearing either one of these once I decide to take a break from my curly hairstyle called crochet braids, which held up pretty well. Next time I'm hoping to develop a routine for maintaining the style longer.

This one even comes with a closure.

I've struggled enormously with what I would like my blog to be  about and then I asked myself why did I even attempt to start my own blog separate from previous one’s I've contributed to?

Productive boredom.

This post will be my way of committing to post until I guess I figure out the "preference" of the blog I would like. But right now an undefined blog is an adventure I am more than willing to embrace.

With that said I would like to share and start with my New Year's Resolution of sorts.

Simplicity! I believe a resolution is an idea that should start immediately or planned in a way you can begin as soon as possible; it’s not just for the beginning of the year.

Procrastination is so deadly I try my best to figure out a better and faster way to do everything from transportation to my routine at my job every day. And when I'm late or something doesn't go right I think back on what could have been done differently? How can I improve? This is so much more positive than wondering why I had made that dumb decision. Or what's wrong with me?

I've learned focusing on the negative is not the answer. I need to just find a solution.

So in the spirit of practicing simplicity I would love to share my experiments for the simple lifestyle I have begun but have not fully implemented which I don't mind because I am still learning. What matters is I started. Please check below and tell me what you think.

First Experimental idea: Since I did not have this type of container, above, a few weeks ago to steam my favorite Shu Mai dumplings from my local Japanese Store around the corner from my job my co-worker (who's not really my co-worker but since she's the sweetest for visiting the office when she can she is definitely the unofficial employee who needs to start getting a check for how often we see her! She's awesome!) told me about; I had to figure this out.

I created this baby http://instagram.com/p/ff0VnbG4WA/ with the idea of a pot steamer.

Nothing was going to get in the way of my Shu Mai dumplings for lunch.
